Steam machine

The main part of this steam machine is the fragment of a trumpet (a boss). That is all that has been left of the instrument. This part that has been saved was the part that stimulated to create a steam machine, as curved tubes and valves perfectly fit for this. Other parts only filled the central part and let create a machine the way it looks now. I pay a lot of attention to a background and frames in my works. I think it supplements the work and gives it the image of authenticity, as, for example, the holes left by wood warm, patina and fittings.  Thus this work gains the shade of an old and weird model in the background crumbled of time.

The main details:
  • A brass trumpet (boss) fragment;
  • A Swedish XX age brass container;
  • The big wheel (made of a “Singer“ sewing machine);
  • The small wheel (made of the brass cannon model);
  • A copper cup to soak flowers.

Dimensions: 50 x 71 cm.

Fish

Fish. The part of a car turbine gave the idea. As far as this part had an oval whole, it had to be filled with something. I came up with the idea to make it transparent and possible to open. I used the corps of a large clock with glass possible to open for this. Gears, tubes and other parts can be seen through this. It lets one discover a robotized inside of the fish. In addition, a tail is a very interesting part. An unexpected idea to use a leather gun compartment which I acquired in a flea market came to my mind. I think that I’ve made an original turbo fish.

The main details:
  • The body of fish has been made of the corps of the car turbine;
  • Organs have been made of the parts of a clock, trumpet and other brass parts;
  • A tail has been made of the combination of an aluminum flask and a leather case;
  • An eye has been made of a tennis ball;
  • A fin has been made of a fork made of a German silver;

A butterfly

Butterfly. When I was turning over an old leather knife sheath in my hands I came up with the idea to use it as the part for some insect and I was not mistaken. As soon as I joined everything I got a perfect butterfly. I had to make something myself, for example, wings. I have made them of a brass tin, curved eyes of a stainless steel grid, framing them into rims curved out of a brass tin. That is a metal butterfly from future. I have hammered number combinations in the background of the picture. It is like a coded text dedicated to think about.

The main details:

  • The body of a butterfly is made of an old leather knife sheath, the parts of clock mechanism and trumpet tubes;
  • A head is a copper cup to immerse flowers;
  • Wings is my fulfillment out of a brass tin;
  • Mustache has been made of a copper wire.

A radio receiver “Bobbin“

Radio receiver. I have acquired an old but well-working radio receiver in a flea market. I liked its color and shape, therefore, I have decided to make a radio receiver in a “steampunk“ style. For me personally it seemed that it lacks legs, therefore, I applied them taking them out of the Russian kettle. I exfoliated the nickel layer before until I saw brass – the latter color fit more here.

I replaced a radio receiver cardboard spine into a brass sheet which I mounted a ventilation equipment made of the corps of the clock and a strainer to. I put another speaker out additionally, that speaker was mounted into a brass cruet which was dedicated to soak the flowers.

The old sound and wave moderators have been changed into the new ones. Furniture handles perfectly fit for this. I have mounted a mincer handle into the left side of the machine and it gave the corps additional charm. As far as a steampunk receiver did not have a title I have provided it and engraved it in a plate. That is the title of an old “Bobbin“ sewing machine.

Dimensions: 50×20 cm.

A Piggy Bank

Piggy. The most usual pot which was used by our grandparents push the idea to create this work. It was lying unnecessary and forgotten… Well, I thought, I will give you other shape. You will become a pig because you resembled it to me by your shape. I only wanted to make it functional as well, i.e. a metal piggy where coins can be thrown and you can acquire very cute things for the collected sum. Coins are thrown through the hole which is on over the top of the head and taken out through the snout loosening two screws.

The main details:

  • A head has been made of a cast-iron pot, a childish trowel made of aluminium, a coffee brew dish, aluminium scoop;
  • Ears – brand gadgets made of aluminium dedicated to remain the shoe shape as it is until the next season;

Sea lion

Sea lion. I have encountered the part of a very good conical shape which helped to arrive the idea and to try to create a metal walrus. I wanted to make it as if it was sticking out of the ice hole which is leaning by its fins to an ice bar, therefore, I have showed only half of it. I‘d say that it is nice, moreover, I was successful to get a compass which I mounted into the top of a hump. A walrus would have to know where to swim. And then one more crazy idea was born in my mind to dress it with a waterproof and a weatherproof “Nord Face“ winter clothing. Thus this mark has appeared on the side of the body of the sea lion.

Parts used:

  • The body of the walrus is an aluminium corpus of an illuminator;
  • A head is an alarm corps part;
  • Fangs – an aluminium 6 mm wire;
  • Fins is my work made of 10 mm aluminium sheet;
  • An icefloe – a 20 mm plate of white marble.

Dimensions: 10×28 cm

Wine rack. I made a fish tail and head quite much earlier, however, the idea about wine rack was born much earlier. I wanted it to be a sculpture and a box to keep jewelry. An octopus is a sea animal, therefore, I have used the color blue not by mistake in some places rubbing it through to a brass. Dragster

Dragster. The first idea that came up to my mind as soon as I saw a saxophone was – yes, that will be a dragster. The instrument itself dictated me this insolent thought. Why not if this instrument has already been broken? However, I also needed other parts for this which would help to actualize my idea. Front wheels have been taken out of the old childish carriage. I have made rear wheels invoking the crowns of electrical kettles (samovar). A tip out of the pipe curtains served for the front of the car. A rear part of the dragster has been made of four parts: that‘s the part of a hookah, a flapper of a wind-instrument, a mark out of a Russian car “VOLGA“ and a bicycle lamp. A driver has been made of simulation. Clothing has been sewed for it and binoculars have been acquired to strengthen visibility.

The main details:

  • A saxophone;
  • A mark of the car “Volga“;
  • The corps of a bicycle lamp;
  • A trumpet flapper;
  • A curtain nozzle;
  • The wheels of a childish carriage.

Radio roadster

Cabriolet. I have found the corps of an old Russian radio receiver in an old parent’s attic. The idea what to do with it came up not at once, therefore, for some time it was thrown to the corner. Probably everything has its time… One day I took it to the daylight, turned up and then I came up with the idea to make a car – old, threadbare, rusty vintage metal  cabriolet . As far as the corps is made of a real radio I wanted to match everything to such a topic. I came up with the idea that a sitting driver listening to a radio station M-1 would perfectly fit, moreover, that is one of my favorite radio stations, therefore, I got down to carry out the idea.

The main details:

  • The corps is a Russian radio receiver of 1952, aluminum tray, a tank part dedicated to investigate, a wooden handle of an umbrella, ventilation grill of a tractor and car bends;
  • Wheels are taken out of a childish carriage;
  • A driver has been made by gluing a simulation;
  • A seat of a driver has been made of a female slipper sole.
